Finding The Best Condo To Fit Your Needs

Condo shopping is not easy. Following a few simple steps will ensure you find the best condo for you.
Buying a condo is an involved process and a big commitment, which means that you should not take the process lightly. If you end up with the wrong condo, you will be stuck in a place that never truly feels like home. There are a few ways to make sure you are happy with your condo purchase.

1.Carefully Read the Listing. Condominium listings include a great deal of information. Be sure to read about several types of condos, reviews of the condo company and much more. It seems basic, but a little research when you begin your search can make a big difference.

2.When You Visit, Ask to See the Condo Floor Plans. By taking a close look at the different designs and floor plans available, you can pick the most efficient unit for you. Decide if you want a condo that faces the sun, allowing you to take advantage of natural light. The condo layout will also give you an insight into whether it will be hot in the summer or cold in the winter.

3.Listen Carefully When Touring Condos. Be aware of extraneous noise from neighbors or businesses near the condo. You do not want to purchase a condo when you can hear your neighbors walking around or watching television. You will get the best idea of noise levels in your condo by visiting it at different times of day. Perhaps you are only seeing the condo during the day when the neighbors are not at home. Even better, if you notice the neighbors are home during your visit, ask them about the noise level.

4.Make Sure the Unit Is Private. When looking at the condo, ask yourself if someone can see in the windows. See if the deck or patio is easily secured to keep unwanted visitors off of your property and out of your home.

5.Ask About the Security System. Ask the condo company about the security system already in place in your unit. See if the system will automatically call the police or fire department should there be a problem. If there is no security system in the condo, ask the company what they recommend and what other tenants use. Perhaps the condo association has a relationship with a security company and can get you a good deal when installing a new system. Also, be sure the building and parking areas are well lit at night.

6.Ask About Available Amenities. Do condo residents have access to a pool, fitness area or community room? Then ask yourself how important these added perks are to you, as they will likely cost you a little more.

7.Ask About Shared Expenses. With extra amenities come extra expenses. Find out whether you will be held financially responsible for pool maintenance, electricity and water used in common areas, or snow removal.

8.Observe the Residents Living in the Condo. Look at the type of people already living in the condominiums— are they young adults, families, senior citizens, etc.? Make sure you will fit in with the people already living in the complex.

9.Ask for a Copy of Recent Condo Owners Association Minutes. This will give you a good insight into the personality of those living in the complex and common problems they experience. If the minutes are full of people fighting with each other or complaining about major maintenance issues, you probably want to continue your condo search and look elsewhere.
